Exhibition Dates: January 2 - 28, 2012

Synopsis: 2012: Transgressions and Extremes will be organized as a multimedia exhibition of contemporary artists exploring different aspects of the popular mythology related to the cultural and existential significance of the year 2012. The exhibition will reflect diverse directions, ideas and concerns of artists working in the second decade of the 21st century. It will be accompanied by an extensive promotional and marketing campaign in print and online media. Up to 15 artists will be selected for participation in the exhibition. All applicants will be listed on this website with their website link. All applicants will be considered for future solo exhibitions.

Eligibility: 2012: Transgressions and Extremes is open to all artists worldwide. Works may be in any discipline, including painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video and new media.

Juror: Kim Levin is an independent art critic and curator. She is President Honoraire of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA). She has been a Regular Contributor to The Village Voice, and currently contributes to Art News. Her essays and reviews have appeared in many anthologies, magazines, and museum catalogues in the United States and elsewhere. She has been a Guest Curator of museum exhibitions in Europe and Asia, and was Curator of the 8th Nordic Biennial, Borealis 8: "The Scream." She has also served as an adviser to the first Kwangju Biennial and was a Commissioner of the first Busan Biennale in Korea.

Entry Fee and Procedures: Artists may submit 5 images of artworks or 2 videos. Entry fee is $35. All low resolution jpeg's (about 300 Kb each) must be emailed to show@newartcenter.net. Videos must be submitted online by download link or by mail. Payments must be made by credit card (Visa, MC) over the phone or via PayPal, money order or certified bank check. No personal checks will be accepted. Application and payment deadlines are September 1, 2011. Mailed payments must be postmarked no later than September 1, 2011, and mailed to New Art Center, 580 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10018. Juror's choices for 2012: Transgressions and Extremes will be announced via e-mail no later than October 1, 2011.
